The day before Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) took control of the nation’s radio networks, Mr Talbot Duckmanton, the General Manager of the ABC, addresses listeners in the territory over the airwaves, to officially hand-over ABC operations to the NBC. In his address, Mr Duckmanton mentions that the NBC will begin its service with 24 stations and that while the ABC will be relinquishing responsibility for broadcasting in PNG, it will still maintain a PNG office and direct link with the NBC by representation on that body. He also noted that the ABC’s Radio Australia PNG service will come into operation the next Sunday. On behalf of the ABC, Mr Duckmanton wishes the NBC all possible success.
