A man has been charged following a knife incident in Brighton which saw two men injured and a dog grabbed, police said.

Officers were called to Sillwood Street at about 18:00 BST on Saturday following reports a man was threatening people with a knife.

A 29-year-old man sustained a slash injury to his face and a second man was also assaulted, a Sussex Police spokesperson said. Members of the public reportedly stopped a pedestrian's dog being taken, and detained the suspect until police arrived.

Toby Sousa, 33, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm, threatening a person with a blade, and with affray, the force said.

He is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court later.

Both injured men attended hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Det Sgt Harry Judge said: "Officers will continue to maintain a visible presence in the area, carrying out reassurance patrols to provide confidence to the local community."

Witnesses or anyone with information regarding the investigation are asked to contact police.
