Ruben Amorim is interested in bringing one of his former Manchester United players to AC Milan, according to reports from Italy.

The ex-United head coach was recently hired by the Serie A giants and has been quick to make a big splash in the transfer market.

A deal to sign striker Goncalo Ramos from PSG for a club record £64million has been agreed, and Amorim is also looking to raid his former club who sacked him in January.

Manuel Ugarte was of interest to Amorim, but any move for the midfielder is on hold after he suffered a painful knee injury during Uruguay’s calamitous World Cup campaign.

But reports in Italy over the weekend have claimed that another United midfielder has been offered to Milan: Mason Mount.

Once a key player for Chelsea and England, Mount has fallen on hard times since swapping Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford in 2023.

The 27-year-old has missed a whopping 70 games through injury since his £55million transfer, recording just seven goals and two assists in three seasons.

He did enjoy arguably his best run of form in a United shirt under Amorim, with the Portuguese head coach praising the player and noting his leadership qualities in the dressing room.

With Michael Carrick focused on rebuilding United’s midfield, he could be inclined to cash-in on the unreliable player, but it seems that is not the case.

According to the Manchester Evening News, reports of a transfer are wide of the mark and there has been no contact between Milan and Mount’s representatives, who were in fact surprised to read the story.

Moreover, it is said Mount remains dedicated to the Red Devils and is completely focused on getting himself in shape before pre-season begins.

Despite his injury struggles, the Champions League winner is still viewed as an important first-team player by Carrick, especially with UCL football returning to Old Trafford next season.

United kick-off the 2026/27 season with a trip to newly-promoted Hull City on August 22.
