A couple appearing on A Place in the Sun have left viewers astonished with their "cheeky" offer. Channel 4 host Ben Hillman accompanied house-hunters Gary and Sandra in their search for a dream holiday retreat on Spain's Costa Calida. The duo, hailing from Redditch, near Birmingham, had set aside a budget of £90,000, but succeeded in securing their perfect property for a significantly reduced sum.

Professional artist Sandra and warehouse operative Gary had first met nearly two decades earlier, and while they'd never purchased a property together previously, they were on the verge of achieving this significant milestone. eThe couple, who had been wed for 16 years at the time the episode first broadcast in September 2024, were seeking a two-bedroom home in Mazarron, Murcia, reports the Mirror.

It didn't take long to impress the pair, as, in the repeat episode airing on Monday, June 29, the pair were blown away by one potential home.

Ben explained: "It is two bedrooms, it's not two bathrooms this time. But, you've probably noticed a little staircase on the side, taking you to a roof terrace."

Gary replied: "I'm flabbergasted, it looks amazing. The surroundings are fantastic."

Ben went on: "I'm going to tell you about the price now, and I don't like to disappoint you so I'm not going to."

When Ben revealed that the price of the apartment was £61,500, almost £30,000 less than their budget, the house-hunters were even more stunned.

Gary quipped to Ben: "Steady, what?! Ben, have you ever been kissed on telly?"

The property expert laughed back: "I'm always up for firsts Gary! Bring it in."

"Are you shocked?" he asked them, as Sandra admitted: "Very shocked, I thought this was going to be over budget."

Seeing inside the property, Sandra said: "Me likey," as Gary added: "It's everything we've been looking for. It's modern, it's fantastic."

"I know you're gobsmacked," Ben said, as Gary admitted he was speechless.

They described the property as everything they were looking for, saying: "It's perfect."

The couple were quick to put in an offer on the final property they saw, with Ben confirming it "stole the show".

Sandra and Gary first put in an offer of £58,000, just slightly below the asking price, but were given a counteroffer of £59,211, which they quickly accepted.

As Ben congratulated them, Sandra: "I feel really, really happy."

Viewers were thrilled for them, with one writing: "They've got a bargain! Well done to them both."

"Well they got it. Cheeky sometimes pays off!" another said.

"58! Cheeky," someone else echoed. Another said: "Glad for them. They were a nice couple."

Another person wrote: "Budget of 90k offer of 58k," to which one viewer replied: "32 grand in the back pocket. Bish bash bosh."

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays from 3pm on Channel 4.
