A Place in the Sun viewers fume
Viewers on A Place in the Sun have been left furious over a “cheeky” offer, as a couple put forward £30,000 less than the asking price on a property in Spain. Buyers Helen and Kevin were hoping to find their dream holiday home in the seaside town of Roquetas de Mar, but failed to get one during a repeat episode of the Channel 4 programme on Monday, 17 August.
Despite viewing five properties, with the help of presenter Lee Juggurnauth, Helen and Kevin were left only impressed by one, but failed in negotiations with the seller. The couple had originally met in Spain over 20 years ago, but had never visited the part of the country where they were looking, reports Glasgow Live.

Having raised their four sons in their London home, they were hoping to eventually permanently relocate to their dream destination, but had to continue their search after the show. Helen and Kevin had a budget of £300,000, but were willing to put in an extra £30,000 wiggle room.
Sharing the thoughts behind their search in Roquetas de Mar, Helen explained: “From what we’ve been told, it seems to be really nice. You’ve got the castle, the long promenade, which will be nice for long walks, stop off, have a bit of tapas and enjoy the days.”
Lee added: “It’s where the Spanish come on holiday, we want to be away from the main tourist areas.”
Helen went on: “You’ve got the mountains, the port, the beach, everything you could want, well I would want, here.”
They were ideally looking for a bungalow, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, but were left impressed by a top-floor apartment they viewed, that could be accessed through a lift.
Although it was listed at around £330,000, Helen admitted: "We're going to be putting in an offer, unfortunately it's going to be a bit lower than the asking price. That's primarily because even though we love the apartment, there's still a lot of things there that we wish to do, like open planning the kitchen, that's going to cost a bit of money."
Their initial offer of £290,000 was promptly turned down by the sellers who put forward a counter-offer, as Lee said: "It's not the news that you guys wanted, they've rejected the offer and have put forward a counter-offer, just under £321,500."
Helen replied: "I don't think we're prepared to go up to that just yet, are we?" before putting in their “final offer” of £300,000.
Ultimately, they were left disappointed when the seller turned it down yet again, while viewers were stunned by their move.
“Cheeky offer - shock!” one said, adding: “Pair of chancers.”
One viewer called it a “joke offer”, as someone else fumed: “£290K is taking the p**s,” to which another viewer agreed: “Massively!”
Someone else asked: “Who in their right mind wants to spend £300K on buying a property in an area they have never been to before?”
Another person called the buyers “cheeky”, writing: “We want to change the apartment to meet our needs but we dont want to pay for it ourselves. We want the vendors to pay for it.”
Someone else commented: “Didn't see that coming.... Ahem.”
