Groopman, who is chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the New England Deaconess Hospital, is director of an innovative AIDS program there that is unusual in combining clinical research and medical services to approximately 1000 HIV-infected people. As a cancer specialist, Groopman has been at the forefront of the battle against AIDS since the early 80's.
