Almost 100 redundancies confirmed at Telford manufacturing firm
Almost 100 staff at a manufacturing firm have been left jobless after a buyer could not be found for the struggling business.
Work associated with wheel maker Moveero Limited in Hadley Castle, Telford, has ceased after a fruitless search for a buyer for the business.
The company's operation in the town, which made wheels for tractors and other construction vehicles, went into administration in March.
A total of 98 people have been made redundant, joint administrators Ryan Grant, Chris Pole and Sam Birchall confirmed. They said that a sale was not possible due to the financial investment needed to turn the business around.
In a statement, the administrators said: "Operations related to Moveero Limited have now ceased.
"As such, and with regret, 98 members of staff based at the company's facility in Telford have been made redundant.
"A number of staff have been retained by the joint administrators to assist them with an orderly wind-down of operations."
Joint administrator Ryan Grant said the team had been "nothing short of exceptional".
"The endeavour to keep the business going and maintain outstanding product quality is testament to [the staff's] professionalism and commitment to customers," he said."
The administrators added the wider Moveero group continues to operate profitably.
The firm had links to Telford going as far back as 1908, including to the name Joseph Sankey & Sons which played a vital role in manufacturing Spitfires during the Second World War.
Joseph Sankey & Sons officially became known as GKN Sankey in 1968, and in its heyday the company employed thousands of workers .
Moveero was bought out by German private equity group Aurelius in 2020 and changed its name the following year.
Telford & Wrekin Council said there was a "range of practical support" for residents facing redundancy.
A spokesperson said: "Individuals looking for work can access free support, including help with CVs, interview preparation, and guidance on job opportunities across the borough."
