Andrew Castle quitting GMTV sofa

Breakfast TV presenter Andrew Castle is to leave GMTV after 10 years, the broadcaster has announced.

The ex-tennis player and Wimbledon commentator said: "With all the changes taking place at GMTV I felt it was time for a new chapter in my life as well."

The station is due for a major revamp which will see former One Show host Adrian Chiles as its main presenter.

GMTV's Penny Smith bade a tearful farewell to the programme last week after 17 years.

Ben Shephard has also announced that he is quitting the breakfast show, while John Stapleton is set to leave the studio and become a roving news correspondent.

Castle's last show is expected to be in September.

The 46-year-old said he had enjoyed "a fantastic 10 years" on GMTV and wished the station "every success in the future".

GMTV boss Alison Sharman said Castle "has been a vital and central part of the presentation team".

According to Broadcast magazine, the GMTV name will be dropped as part of the show's rebranding, which will cost £1.5m.

The music and graphics will also be overhauled, it adds.
