A leading architect has unveiled his vision for a £2.5bn regeneration of Ashford.

Sir Terry Farrell outlined his plan for the Kent town before an audience of businesses, developers, investors and community groups on Wednesday.

Ashford's Future, the agency which organised the event, wants to double the town's size by 2031.

Sir Terry said: "Ashford has the potential to turn into one of the UK's most prosperous and dynamic towns."

He added: "With the Eurostar rail link providing a gateway to Europe, and the introduction of the fast train service to London, Ashford encompasses many of the qualities I believe are vital for vibrant communities."

Sir Terry has already acted as design champion for the Thames Gateway and the Medway towns.

Judith Armitt, of Ashford's Future, said: "Sir Terry has exciting ideas for Ashford and I know he's looking forward to sharing these with us.

"We have ambitious goals for Ashford and with Sir Terry's help we are embarking on an exciting journey for the town and its people.

"This is an historic landmark for the town and will be critical in helping us to forge a new future for the area."
