Armed robbers target jewellers in Tandragee

Two armed robbers have stolen gold rings from a jewellery shop in Tandragee, County Armagh.

The masked men entered the premises at Market Street at about 1415 BST on Thursday. One was carrying a handgun while the other had a hammer.

After smashing a glass cabinet and lifting gold rings, they took jewellery from a safe. Their getaway vehicle was found burned out a short time later.

Three men and a woman have been arrested.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who saw a red Corsa or silver BMW in the Scarva/Tandragee area on Thursday afternoon to contact them.

Police believe the robbers' getaway vehicle, a grey Audi A4, was stolen on Wednesday from a car dealership in Mallusk near Newtownabbey, about 35 miles away.

In that robbery, a man was being accompanied by a salesman on a test drive.

At about 1700 BST, he stopped close to a supermarket at Maysfield.

While the car was parked, another man approached and opened the passenger-side door.

The driver pushed an object into the salesman's side and told him to get out.

The pair, who were said to have strong Belfast accents, then drove away.
