A small number of trouble-makers were "quickly dealt with by police"

Four arrests were made at Manchester's World Cup screening zone in what has otherwise been described as a "good-natured" event.

Four men, aged between 19 and 37 were arrested for affray by police inside the Castlefield Arena.

More than 10,000 England fans attended the ticket-only screening of England's World Cup debut where bars and an artificial beach were laid on.

A council spokesman said the event had a "good-natured family atmosphere".

Councillor Mike Amesbury of Manchester City Council said: "A tiny and insignificant handful of fools let themselves down near the end of the game, but they were quickly dealt with by the police.

"The overwhelming majority of the crowd did the city proud and demonstrated clearly what it means to be true football fans.

"The atmosphere was amazing and there was a real World Cup spirit throughout the park."
