Three youths have been arrested after more than 40 gravestones were vandalised at a church in Ceredigion.

Police say damage to the stones - some of which were broken in half - would cost thousands of pounds to repair.

Officers are still investigating the attack at St Peter's Church in Lampeter overnight on Sunday, 13 June and are appealing for information.

The youths, whose ages have not been released, have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Pc Jo Grey of Dyfed-Powys Police said: "This type of criminal damage is very upsetting for the relatives of those buried in the graveyard.

"People are naturally very angry. Although three people have been arrested I would appeal for anyone who has information that could help the investigation to contact police."

Anyone with information is asked to phone police in Lampeter on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
