As a 20-year-old American composer living in Paris, this hour's guest, David Diamond was asked in 1935 to write music for a ballet based on "Uncle Tom's Cabin." Diamond completed the score in 1936, but the ballet was never staged. The music survives as a suite. Here are two selections, the "Introduction and Dance of the Benevolent Master and Mistress," and the "Dance of New England and New Orleans." Gerard Schwarz conducts the Seattle Symphony.
