At its introduction in 1795, London critics raved about the "fine mixture of grandeur and simplicity" of Franz Joseph Haydn's newest symphonic creation. 200 years later, that assessment holds up pretty well, as we'll hear in a performance by the Swiss Italian Orchestra of the Symphony No. 103 in E-flat, the "Drum Roll" Symphony, premiered on the first Monday of March in 1795.
