At least two people have died in a horror fire ripping through a hospital in Germany. The fire broke out at a clinic in Ludwigslust this morning (2 July). According to the German Press Agency, at least two patients have died, and more than 30 reported injuries. A police spokesperson said none of them were serious. Local reports also said one person had to be resuscitated.

The fire is believed to have started at around 4.28am in a patient's room in the upper floor of the building housing the radiology department and also spread to the roof of the building. The hospital was evacuated, and patients were wheeled out of the building.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. There's a total of 160 beds in the hospital, and 82 were in the building when the fire broke out, according to German newspaper Bild.

The fire service is currently still at the scene. Other local reports said 34 people were injured in the fire. One patient suffered from smoke inhalation, the same newspaper also said.

The fire is now under control, and no open flames are visible, German media added, quoting the fire service. Emergency services operations are still ongoing. Police have cordoned off the area, and motorists were told to avoid the area. Police said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
