This section covers everything you need to watch the 2026 World Cup from the UK. Whether you want to stream it free through BBC or ITV, access it through a sportsbook while placing live bets, or track upcoming England and Scotland fixtures.

All 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup will be shown free-to-air in the UK, with no subscription or pay-per-view charges. BBC Sport and ITV Sport share the broadcast rights, covering every match across the tournament from the opening game on 11th June to the Final on 19th July. Both broadcasters will air the Final simultaneously. BBC matches are available to stream live via BBC iPlayer. ITV matches are available live on ITVX, which is free to access with a registered account. Scottish viewers can also watch selected matches via STV and the STV Player, in addition to the main BBC and ITV coverage.

To make the most of the free streaming options, download BBC iPlayer and ITVX ahead of the tournament, ensure your accounts are set up, and check the TV listings for which broadcaster is showing each match. Matches kick off between 5pm and 4am BST, reflecting the North American time zones.

Both options let you watch every World Cup match live. The difference is what you can do while you watch. Here is a direct comparison:

In-play betting, also known as live betting, means placing a wager on a match after it has already kicked off, with odds updating in real time based on the score, time remaining, and match events. Most UK sportsbooks pair live streaming directly with in-play betting, so you can watch the action and place bets simultaneously in the same app.

Arguably the weakest of the 12 groups due to Canada also being a top seed. Switzerland rarely fail at major tournaments and have an experienced squad led by Granit Xhaka.Canada should claim second place, although they will be desperate for Alphonso Davies to be declared fit, with Qatar and Bosnia-Herzegovina making up the numbers.

Not an easy group for Scotland to navigate alongside five-time winners Brazil and (controversially awarded) AFCON champions Morocco. Steve Clarke’s side need to beat Haiti and avoid heavy defeats in their other two games in a bid to go through as one of the best third-placed finishers. Morocco will test Brazil but expect Carlo Ancelotti’s men to top the pool.

The jury remains out on Mauricio Pochettino’s USA side and this will be a stern test with all four sides sitting between 16 and 40 in the FIFA World Rankings. Paraguay are strong defensively, Australia will have their customary competitive edge while Turkey have star power provided by Real Madrid’s Arda Guler. It’s tough to see the States finishing in the top two but third is not out of the question.

Germany will go in as group favourites but that was also the case in 2018 and 2022 when they failed to reach the knockout stages. Ecuador conceded just five goals in 18 South American qualifiers – albeit playing at altitude undoubtedly helped – while Ivory Coast have young talent in Amad Diallo and Yan Diomande. Curacao will struggle to pick up a point.

A difficult group to call. The Netherlands are favourites but will have to avoid defeat in their opener against an impressive Japan side. Sweden can boast a front two of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres although they struggled to qualify. Tunisia weren’t particularly impressive at the most recent AFCON and will do well to avoid fourth place.

Belgium’s Golden Generation is long gone but they still possess enough quality to justify their status as group favourites. Iran are the second-highest ranked team and will be strong – on the assumption they take part. Mohamed Salah will see this as a chance to show the world he is still one of the game’s greats ahead of a summer move away from Liverpool. New Zealand will likely struggle.

Spain are rightly among the tournament favourites and the European champions ought to cruise through this group. Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay should finish second while Saudi Arabia look a good bet for third. Cape Verde should enjoy the experience but are unlikely to pick up a point. One of the easier pools to predict.

France have an abundance of riches, particularly in attack, and should be able to overpower teams, particularly if Didier Deschamps releases the handbrake in his final tournament in charge. Senegal will be eager to make up for their AFCON disappointment while Erling Haaland will spearhead Norway’s challenge. Iraq will be competitive but that may not be enough to go through.

Ignore the doubt, Lionel Messi will be present and will still be one of the best players even though he turns 39 midway through the tournament. Argentina rode Messi’s brilliance to win in Qatar 2022 and they will likely go deep again. Austria and Algeria will battle it out for second but both could go through on the assumption they will beat Jordan.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be eager to show he can still cut it with the best and Portugal certainly have the talent to give him that platform. Colombia are a dangerous outsider, particularly if Luis Diaz maintains his Bayern Munich form, and DR Congo could snatch third place from Uzbekistan.

England will go in as group favourites but it is worth remembering Croatia finished as runners-up in 2018 and in third place four years ago in Qatar. The Three Lions *should* be too strong for them this time round but don’t be surprised if their pool opener ends in stalemate. It will then come down to the games against Panama and Ghana as to who finishes top. Panama are the stronger of the two, ranked 41 places higher than the Africans.
