British shows lead the way in the shortlist for the Rose d'Or international TV awards, with 48 nominations out of a total of 515.

Channel 4 and the BBC dominate in comedy, where contenders include The Inbetweeners and Outnumbered.

BBC documentary Ballet Boyz: The Rite of Spring has two nods, as does one-off ITV1 drama An Englishman in New York.

The 50th Rose d'Or festival will take place in the Swiss city of Lucerne from 18 to 22 September.

BBC One's Famous, Rich and Homeless, which followed celebrities as they tried to live on the streets, has two nominations; as does Blood, Sweat and Takeaways, which sent Britons to work alongside food labourers in south-east Asia.

British nominees in the comedy category also include Channel 4's Frankie Boyle Show and The Kevin Bishop Show, as well as the BBC's Impressions Show with Culshaw and Stephenson, and The Armstrong and Miller Show.

BBC programmes including Home Time and Psychoville, dominate the sitcom shortlist, while ITV2's FM also received a nod.

Soap spin-off EastEnders: E20 is nominated in the multi-platform category while Pineapple Dance Studios, which has just been dropped by Sky1, is listed in the reality category.

The documentary, which features dancer Louie Spence, is up against Channel 4 maternity ward programme, One Born Every Minute.
