Bus crashes into Fife house while OAP sleeps

An elderly woman has been treated for shock after a bus crashed into her Fife house while she was sleeping.

Helen Wilson, 89, was upstairs in bed when the Stagecoach bus ploughed through her Methil garden and into her hall at 2340 BST on Wednesday.

The bus caused a 3ft by 2ft hole near her front door and engineers have found her house is structurally unstable.

The bus driver is understood to have swerved to avoid an object in Methilhaven Road.

Ms Wilson is understood to now be staying at a nearby house. She was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew.

A spokeswoman for Stagecoach in Fife said: "An incident occurred at around 2340 BST on Wednesday where one of our vehicles came off the road in Methil, colliding with a house on Methilhaven Road.

"Safety is our number one concern and we are thankful that the driver and passenger on board were uninjured.

"Our thoughts are with the lady who was inside the house who we believe is being treated for shock.

"We are treating this matter very seriously and are currently investigating the circumstances which will include interviewing the driver and viewing CCTV footage."

Gary Nicoll, Fife Council's building standards and safety lead officer, said: "The building is structurally unstable and we have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety. We will continue to monitor the situation."
