Buxton pub scheme to deter troublemakers

A Pubwatch scheme has been launched in Derbyshire to try to curb problem behaviour during the summer.

The scheme includes 10 Buxton pubs and is timed to coincide with the World Cup, then the town's carnival in July.

Members will have radios to inform the police and each other about any anti-social or suspicious behaviour, or other problems.

Any troublemakers will face being banned from all Pubwatch premises in the town.

Ian Howarth of The Queen's Head on High Street said: "The radio link up, used as part of a positive Pubwatch scheme, is about taking action against any forms of anti-social behaviour and keeping the town a safe place to enjoy a drink for both locals and visitors alike."

Pc Sarah Crosthwaite added: "The message to potential troublemakers is to think about the consequences of being banned and how it would affect your life."

Bans can be issued for a variety of reasons, including using threatening behaviour towards staff, fighting or drugs offences.
