At least 17 people are injured after a car rammed into football fans celebrating a World Cup win.

Crowds had gathered in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, after Raul Jimenez’s team beat rivals the Czech Republic 3-0, qualifying top of the group and cementing their place in the round of 32.

Hordes of jubilant fans congregated in the resort city at around 9.45pm local time, wearing Mexico’s green football shirt and celebrating in the streets.

In footage of the incident posted online, fans could be seen surrounding a black car, appearing to press up against its windows and front bonnet.

The vehicle then suddenly accelerated, ramming into crowds before attempting to drive off.

All of those who suffered injuries were taken to local hospitals and are all in stable condition.

Alberto Rentería Santana, general secretary of Los Cabos City Council, said investigations are ongoing.

Cabo San Lucas is a popular holiday destination located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, in the state of Baja California Sur.

It is consistently rated as one of Mexico’s top tourist destinations, known for its beaches, scuba diving and marine life.
