Former world number one Carlos Alcaraz will mark his comeback from injury at the US Open. The Spaniard will defend his crown after beating Jannik Sinner at Flushing Meadows in 2025 having faced a race to be fit for the New York Grand Slam.

Alcaraz hasn't played competitively since injuring his wrist at the Barcelona Open in April. On Thursday (August 20), football transfer influencer Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the 23-year-old will make his return for the tournament, with the singles competition underway on August 30. His wrist injury was significant enough for him to withdraw from the French Open and Wimbledon with Alexander Zverev and Sinner claiming the silverware respectively.

Avid football fan Alcaraz joined forces with the Italian influencer's 'Here We Go' catchline alongside a picture of the Spaniard, Romano wrote: "Carlos Alcaraz will return to the tour at the US Open after spending four months sidelined with a right wrist injury. Ready to come back."

Alcaraz withdrew from the Cincinnati Open, which concludes this weekend, despite initial plans to mark his return to tennis in the competition. His comeback will now come at the major as he looks to successfully defend his crown as pick up a second slam of the season after his Australian Open success, where he became the youngest man to complete the Career Slam.

The 23-year-old had been seen hitting shots during a practice session in Spain at the beginning of this month but pulled out a day later. Alcaraz admitted that his decision to withdraw from the French Open was to prevent future wrist issues.

He said: “After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros. We wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court.

“This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger." Alcaraz will learn his path to the final on August 27 when the draw is announced.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Emilio Nava have already withdrawn from the final Grand Slam of the tournament. Meanwhile, Sinner will be favourite to take the final piece of silverware of the season after an impressive display on grass at SW19.
