Police have released CCTV images of men they suspect were involved in a fight on a train between York and Leeds after the York races last month.

British Transport Police said disorder broke out between two groups of men at around 1100 BST on the 0950 BST Middlesbrough to Manchester Airport service.

One man was left seriously injured after the incident on 22 May.

Police have urged the men in the images and any witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesman said: "As the train left York station, the two groups, consisting of eight men and five men, began a serious altercation.

"This resulted in a man gaining serious injuries.

"Many innocent passengers were also travelling in the carriage at the same time and were left fearing for their safety.

"I am looking for help from the public to build up a complete picture of what took place."
