Ceredigion three-year public drink ban on offender

A man has been banned from drinking in public in Ceredigion for three years as part of a criminally-related anti-social behaviour order (Crasbo).

Dyfed-Powys Police said Gary Cooper, of Aberystwyth, was the first person in the force area to receive the order.

Officers said he had 278 previous convictions for drink-related offences.

Last Friday's order also banned the 48-year-old from being drunk in a public place and from being verbally abusive or threatening in Ceredigion.

Police said he had received a Crasbo from magistrates in Aberystwyth for his "persistent anti-social behaviour resulting from drink-related offending" in the county.

Police said his previous convictions were for 472 offences, and if he breached the order he could be jailed for up to five years.

Insp Gary Davies of Aberystwyth police said: "We are very pleased with the message the decision of the court conveys - that anti-social behaviour is not acceptable within Ceredigion and will not be tolerated.

"We have been working very closely with our partners on this matter and we will continue to do so in both monitoring any breach of the conditions and identifying other people who behave in an anti-social manner.

"Anti-social behaviour is a policing and a community safety partnership priority for Ceredigion and we will continue to take positive action against any individuals who act in an anti-social way within the community."
