Channel 5 Riptide filming locations as cast talk
Riptide is making its comeback to Channel 5 this week, four years since its initial broadcast. The psychological thriller chronicles newlyweds Alison and Sean, whose idyllic existence descends into turmoil when Sean does not come back from a morning surf.
The four-part drama features EastEnders and Ackley Bridge actor Jo Joyner, Shameless and The Flats star Ciarán Griffiths, Peter O'Brien, known for Neighbours, The Unusual Suspects, and Outlander star David Berry. However, another highlight of the programme is Riptide's setting, owing to the breathtaking coastal scenery and a seaside property the cast described as "phenomenal".

Riptide was shot on location in Melbourne and Victoria in Australia over several weeks in August 2022. Numerous cast members, during filming four years ago, discussed the remarkable properties used as the characters' residences.
Benny Turland, who portrays Ethan Weston in the programme, remarked of Alison and Sean's seaside property: "It was so beautiful. It was very cold! Because of that ocean, the wind coming in was icy, and we have a different kind of weather zone in Melbourne.
"It's like a wind tunnel and you can get four seasons in one day which can be frustrating to shoot. You'll be covered in jackets with hot water bottles and umbrellas one minute, and the next minute the sun's out and you're sweating! But, yeah, the location was phenomenal.
"I've never been in a place like that ever before so that was really exciting. We'd done our rehearsals beforehand and when we got there it suddenly felt real. It definitely helped to get into character, being in this phenomenal house with that view of the ocean. It was pretty spectacular."
Certain sequences were filmed at Network 10 studios in Nunawading, Melbourne, which were previously utilised for producing Neighbours.
Discussing filming in Australia, Jo Joyner, who portrays Alison, remarked: "I really, really fell for Melbourne in a big way – it was honestly amazing. I could live there. I will always have a soft spot for the place now."
Meanwhile, David Berry, who portrays Dan Burrell, spoke of the "incredible sunsets" in Melbourne: "Looking out and seeing the sun setting over the water, and the red in the sky, it did make me fall in love with Melbourne.
"It's not the Australia that many people understand as their idea of what Australia is. In a lot of people's minds you've got Sydney harbour, the Great Barrier Reef – these are things often seen in Australian films – but Melbourne has its own beautiful landscapes that I don't really think people have really come to appreciate exist in Australia.
"It's cold, it's moody, it's misty, it's raining. And it's also sometimes bright and beautiful, and it has so many different pockets of natural beauty that were unique to me, and will be unique to audiences as they can fall in love with Australia in a completely different way than they've come to imagine it."
Riptide will repeat on Channel 5 on Monday, June 29 at 9pm.
