A charity has unveiled plans to rescue a Braille course in Sheffield after it was axed because of funding cuts.
Falling numbers resulted in the Sheffield College course being stopped last year, leaving people with no access to such a service.
A charity has now given £5,000 to fund a 10-week pilot project.
Sheffield-based Woodthorpe Development Trust, which received funding from the Humber Learning Consortium, decided to give the money to Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind after becoming aware of the lack of Braille classes.
Mr Blunkett, who has been blind since birth, said: "Because it is a pilot it will be crucial so it's vital that people do come forward and they demonstrate that there is demand."
