A chef has admitted to killing a swan on a river embankment in Bedford.

Mohammed Miah, 29, of Kathie Road in Bedford, pleaded guilty to killing a wild bird at Bedford Magistrates' Court. A theft charge was dropped.

Prosecutors said he killed the swan in the early hours of 10 May on an embankment near The Swan Hotel.

Mr Miah, who was charged after an investigation by the police and the RPSB, is due to be sentenced on 18 June.
