Reports suggested Chelsea had kept Terry in the dark over a £30m bid received last week while the England captain was away on holiday.

“It is total nonsense, we’ve spoken to him a number of times,” a club statement said. “He knows he’s not for sale.” Terry joins up with the Blues squad for pre-season training today, and is also due to hold talks with boss Carlo Ancelotti, who stated on Monday that his captain would be leaving the club.

A Chelsea source added: “We’ve spoken to him a number of times and we’ll talk again when he gets back from holiday. He is well aware of our position that he is not for sale and he was pleased that both the club and the manager publicly took that position as we discussed it with him.”
