People living near a Shropshire RAF air base are being warned there will be flying until the early hours when Chinook helicopters are used next week.

RAF Shawbury will host ex-students with No 18 Squadron, which is preparing for deployment to Afghanistan.

The Squadron will operate from the base from Monday and helicopters will fly until 0300 BST from Tuesday to Thursday.

The RAF said people "may notice some unusual aerial activity".

It said: "The Squadron [based at RAF Odiham] regularly prepares for front line operations by operating from other units around the country.

"But this is the first time they will have operated their Chinook helicopters from the north Shropshire airbase for a longer period."

Helicopters will arrive on Sunday afternoon.
