The Metropolitan Police recorded the incident time as approximately 04:20 BST, and police were called at 04:37 BST, according to the force.

Six men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Clapham, south-west London, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Police were called at 04:37 BST following reports of a man attending hospital with a stab wound. He later died in hospital, the force said.

The incident is believed to have taken place around Tremadoc Road and Clapham High Street.

Police said four of the suspects also attended hospital with stab wounds and are continuing to receive treatment, although their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Alongside the four men in hospital – three aged 22 and one 24 – officers also arrested two further men, aged 27 and 23, at the hospital on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.

The Met said it understood the fatally injured man was stabbed at about 04:20. It added that officers were carrying out inquiries in and around Tremadoc Road and Clapham High Street to establish the full circumstances around the incident.

Det Ch Insp Sarah Lee, who is leading the investigation, said those in the area would continue to notice an increased police presence throughout Saturday.

The family of the man who died have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Supt Mark Gallacher, a policing lead for the area, described the incident as "tragic".

"We understand that this will cause concern among the local community and specialist detectives are doing everything possible to determine what has happened," he added.

The Met urged witnesses or people with information about the incident to contact police on 101, quoting reference 1474/25July.
