Not all late night pubs and clubs in parts of the Highlands have followed rules on serving drinks in plastic glasses, according to a report.

Plastic is seen by licensing authorities and the police as a way of tackling drunken violence.

Highland Council's licensing standards officer said the drinks licence at one premises was suspended because it served glass bottles.

Warnings have also been issued to two other premises.

The council's licensing standards officer visited premises in Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey to see how they were complying with the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.

He has submitted a report to the area's licensing board which will meet on 15 June.

In his report, the officer said: "Of some concern also is the observance of the local condition in relation to plastic glasses in late night premises.

"All have stocks of the necessary glassware, yet one licence has been suspended for allowing glass bottles to be served.

"A further compliance notice has been issued for the same matter and a premises licence review has been requested for a third premises for this and other associated issues."
