Detectives have questioned a member of the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority over an alleged indecent assault.

A woman claimed Cornwall councillor Bill Jenkin, 79, made unwanted sexual advances and tried to kiss her against her will.

Police confirmed a man had been arrested on Friday in connection with two counts of indecent assault and bailed until 16 July.

Councillor Jenkin declined to talk about the allegations.

Councillor Jenkin is chairman of Camborne Conservatives and is also a member of Cornwall Council.

He sits on several committees, including the Standards Committee, which is responsible for how councillors conduct themselves.
