Coronation Street star heartbroken as he confirms tragic death

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank, best known for playing vicar Billy Mayhew on the cobbles from 2014 until 2026, has shared some devastating death news with his fans on social media. The soap star, who also appeared in ITV’s Emmerdale, explained that his beloved dog Jean sadly died at the weekend.

Daniel wrote: “My beautiful, loving, kind, desperately loyal pup Jean left us today. I’m heartbroken. A huge thanks to the wonderful staff @animaltrustvets for doing everything they could to save her.” He later shared a snap of him cuddled up with three of his dogs, including Jean, and wrote: “Absolutely gutted that I’ll never get to snuggle up with my complete trio like this again.

“But so grateful of the time I had with them all together. Hug your pups tight while you’ve got them.”

The actor was quickly supported by his Corrie co-stars, with Alex Bain – who played Simon Barlow – writing: “So sorry to hear that Dan, sending love and best wishes.”

Sue Cleaver, who played Eileen Grimshaw, wrote: “Love you and I’m so glad I got to see her yesterday.”

Leanne Battersby star Jane Danson echoed: “Oh Dan, so sorry to hear that. Sending you a big hug.”

And Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter, said: “Oh darling, that’s so sad… it’s so painful. So much love dear heart.”

Tributes were also paid by Sally Carman, Faye Brookes, Kym Marsh and Lucy Fallon.

Daniel is also dog dad to two other pooches – Colin and Dorris. All three pups were Dachshunds, and Daniel adopted Jean in February 2020 from Dogs Trust.
