Crackdown on driving offences in Quedgeley, Gloucester

Sixteen drivers were punished for motoring offences during a police operation in Quedgeley, Gloucester.

Fourteen were fined £30 for not wearing a seat belt and two were fined £60 and given three points on their licences for using mobile phones while driving.

The operation was in response to concerns raised by residents about general driving standards in the area.

A police spokesman said they would continue to look at the issue.

Pc Fraser Mackie said: "The number of drivers not using seatbelts was obviously concerning because it puts them at serious risk but there were at least no drivers breaking the speed limit, which is reassuring.

"I hope this action will make local people confident that we are listening to them when they tell us what is concerning them."
