Cumbria coach crash driver leaves hospital

The driver of a coach that crashed in Cumbria, killing three people, has been released from hospital.

Five children, aged between 12 and 15, and a woman remain in hospital following Monday's crash on the A66.

Chloe Walker, 16, Kieran Goulding, 15, and car driver Patrick Short, 68, died when the coach, carrying children home from Keswick School, crashed.

The coach driver, a 63-year-old man from Egremont, has been allowed home, police said.

The parents of Chloe Walker, who died on her sixteenth birthday, said: "How could someone so precious and loved so dearly be taken away so young and on her birthday?"

Kieran's family paid tribute to a "fun loving boy", who lived life to the full.

The wife of Patrick Short described him as a "generous, principled man".

Cumbria Police said the coach was on the correct side of the road when the impact happened.

Early indications were that it swerved to avoid an oncoming car which had crossed the central line, and overturned.
