Day centre closures to be debated

Plans to cut day services for adults in Buckinghamshire are being put out to public consultation.

The county council wants to close its 22 day centres and replace them with four or five new facilities.

Two or three community hubs would be built in towns such as Amersham, Chesham, Aylesbury and High Wycombe.

Another two smaller centres called community satellites are being proposed for more outlying areas of the county.

Currently Buckinghamshire County Council spends £11m a year providing services for around 1,300 vulnerable and older adults.

The council is also suggesting a network of community bases where people can access information in places like leisure centres, libraries, adult education centres, village halls, church halls and other public meeting places.

Buckinghamshire's cabinet member for adults and family wellbeing, Patricia Birchley said the aim was to "join up" services.

"We want people's views, especially those of people who use day care services and from their carers, what they would like changed and what they would leave the same."
