A soldier was riding his motorcycle at more than twice the speed limit before a crash claimed his life, a trial has heard.

Andrew Young, 35, died on the A98 west of Portsoy - a short distance from his home - in April last year.

Frank Ralph was driving a pick-up truck and trailer which was in collision with the bike.

Mr Ralph, 54, has gone at trial at Banff Sheriff Court after denying causing death by careless driving.

Witnesses estimated that Mr Young was travelling at speeds up to 70mph or 80mph in a built-up residential area seconds before the crash.
