Derbyshire landslip road reopened after work

A Derbyshire road severely affected by a landslip has reopened after a £750,000 project to repair the damage.

The B5056 at Fenny Bentley near Ashbourne suffered from subsidence for several months and was finally closed in August 2009 after heavy rain.

Despite nearby villages complaining the closure affected the local economy, engineers decided major remedial work was needed to prevent further problems.

More than 80 reinforced posts have been put in place to support the road.

Cllr Chris Jackson, who is the county councillor responsible for highways, said: "Major work was needed to repair the road and prevent it from slipping again in the future.

"The project involved a lot of detailed planning and complex engineering measures.

"But we pulled out all the stops to rebuild the road as soon as possible and I'd like to thank local communities for their patience while this important work was carried out."

Further work to repair a second landslip at Horsley Farm was also carried out.
