Derbyshire Police patrols increase during World Cup

Derbyshire Police will be increasing patrols in the county's city and town centres to deter troublemakers watching World Cup matches.

Operation Bradshaw will focus on Derby, Chesterfield and other town centres where pubs will be screening football games.

Police said anyone arrested in connection with disorder in the county during the World Cup may be given a football banning order.

The tournament in South Africa will run from 11 June to 11 July.

Ch Supt Russ Foster said: "We are primarily concerned with making sure that people have confidence in coming to our city and towns to watch the matches in an attractive and safe environment, have a good time and then get home safely.

"We will be working closely with the licensing trade and door staff to enable this to happen and it should be clear that anyone who intends to cause disorder will be dealt with positively and swiftly.

"Violence and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated."
