Developers have pledged about £18m to fund schools and local projects in west Northamptonshire over the past year, a council has revealed.

The West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) said a condition to getting planning permission was for developers to provide the funding.

The money will help transport, education and community facilities in Northampton, Daventry and Towcester.

So far £700,000 has been transferred to local councils by the developers.

WNDC chief executive Peter Mawson said: "The levels of funding secured by WNDC are a massive increase compared to the past.

"We are careful to balance the needs of the local area with what is fair and reasonable for developers to pay.

"Using this approach, we have secured in excess of £30m to date, to be invested in vital infrastructure across the area."
