Garden centre chain Dobbies plans to open a store in Liverpool, which it says will create 120 jobs.

The firm says the development off Speke Boulevard near Liverpool Airport will be environmentally friendly and built from sustainably-sourced timber.

The firm said full and part-time jobs would be created in the Speke and Garston areas.

The site will also house a food hall, offering local produce from Merseyside and Cheshire.

Stuart Wright, director of property at Dobbies, said the Speke Garden World would bring more than 120 jobs to Liverpool.

"We want to help boost the local economy in a sustainable way by providing jobs for local people.

"We will also be working with Merseyside and Cheshire suppliers to fill our Farm Food hall shelves, feature on the menu of our restaurant and provide the huge range of gardening and plant products," he said.

An exhibition on the Dobbies proposals will be held at the Parklands City Learning Centre in Speke on Wednesday, from 1400 BST until 2000 BST.
