Dodgers turn to former division rival to help replace injured Andy Pages

The Dodgers’ plan to replace Andy Pages is coming into focus.
With Pages set to miss roughly 4-5 weeks after suffering a broken hand on a 100 mph fastball Friday, the Dodgers are planning to call up Alek Thomas from Triple-A Oklahoma City, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the California Post.
The move will see the 26-year-old Thomas make his Dodgers debut, after spending this summer in the minors following a trade from the Diamondbacks.
Thomas’ recall, which was first reported by The Athletic, did not come as a surprise.
On Friday night, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team would prioritize center field defense with who it called up to replace Pages on the roster.
Among players already on their 40-man roster, Thomas was the only one with extensive center field experience, having manned the position over parts of five seasons with the Diamondbacks before being designated for assignment earlier this year and traded to the Dodgers.
A former second-round draft pick, Thomas began his MLB career with two decent seasons in 2022 and 2023. Though he only hit .230 over that stretch with a .633 OPS, he still compiled 2.4 wins above replacement, according to Baseball-Reference, thanks to his defense and was part of Arizona’s surprise National League pennant winner in the latter campaign.
After that, however, Thomas’ MLB career quickly stalled. He missed most of 2024 with a hamstring injury. And after hitting a career-best .249 in 2025, he regressed again this year with a .181 average in 28 games, leading to his departure in early May.
Upon joining the Dodgers, Thomas spent time at the team’s spring training complex working on his swing.
In OKC, he has impressed with a .296 average and .855 OPS.
Now, he’ll get another crack in the big leagues, providing the Dodgers a left-handed-hitting center field option to complement Kiké Hernández (who figures to see plenty of playing time in Pages’ absence) and perhaps utilityman Tommy Edman (who has extensive center field experience but is also coming off an ankle surgery this offseason).
