Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said they received 60 calls from the public alerting them about the fire at Ballard Down in New Swanage at about 1336 BST.
It took almost three hours for the fire crews to extinguish 600sqm (0.15 acres) of gorse that was alight.
There were 11 heath fires in the county in May. The cause of the latest blaze is unknown. Crews remain at the scene to "damp down" the area.
