Epsom and St Helier NHS spends nearly £10m on revamps

A total of £9.6m is to be spent on improving surgery and outpatient facilities by an NHS trust on the Surrey/London border.

Epsom and St Helier NHS said projects over the next year would include major refurbishments and upgrades, such as updating IT systems.

Projects include a £400,000 refurbishment of operating theatres at St Helier Hospital in south London.

There will also be £100,000 spent on outpatient areas at Epsom Hospital.

Nick Gorvett, director of corporate infrastructure at Epsom and St Helier NHS, said: "We'll be ploughing almost £10m into our buildings, land and hospital equipment.

"It's going to be a great boost to the trust and something that we hope all of our patients, visitors, staff and volunteers will benefit from."

He said new equipment would include a scanner for checking unborn babies are healthy, an ultrasound probe, specialist tools for surgery on eyes, and endoscopes and bronchoscopes.

The trust is also buying new resuscitation monitors for the accident and emergency departments, which check patients' blood pressure, pulse, and heart patterns.
