An ex-racer has been deployed by Derbyshire Police to promote motorbike safety this summer.

Rodger Turner, who won more than 80 races before retiring in 1998, offered bikers advice in Chesterfield.

The 2010 Bikers' Guide to Derbyshire was also handed out, highlighting 14 routes where motorbike collisions are most common.

These include the A54, A5012 Via Gellia, A615 Matlock to Alfreton and the A6 between Bakewell and Buxton.

A liveried van, equipped with speed cameras and used on the 14 routes to deter speeding in the summer, was also on display.

Ch Insp Tim Frohwein, head of Road Policing, said: "We want bikers to come to Derbyshire and enjoy riding on our roads.

"We feel this event offers riders the chance to find out how they can improve their skills, and become better, safer bikers, while showing them the equipment they can expect to see on the county's roads this summer."
