Fans to pay tribute to Stuart Cable ahead of funeral

Fans of the ex-Sterophonics drummer Stuart Cable have been invited to line the route to the church where his funeral will be held.

The service at St Elvan's Church in Aberdare, Cynon Valley, next Monday will be a private one.

But people wishing to pay their last respects will be able to gather for a 'Celebration of the Life of Stuart Cable'.

Cable was found dead at his home in Llwydcoed on Monday, 7 June, aged 40.

Gary Marsh, editor of the Cynon Valley Leader newspaper, who is acting as a spokeman for the Cable family, said that the funeral and cremation at Llwydcoed Crematorium will be private for family, friends and guests, along with locals from his home village Cwmaman.

But he said the family understood that fans would want to pay their last respects and are asking the public to line the route around Aberdare town centre and St Elvan's Church.

The route of the cortege has not yet been revealed, ahead of the funeral at 1200 BST.

People attending are asked to wear "appropriate attire only".

Cable's family released a statement last week which said: "On Monday we lost not just a rock star but a father, son and brother."

Cable, who left Stereophonics in 2003, went on to forge a career as a TV and radio presenter and also set up a new band called Killing For Company.

Police have said it may take up to six weeks before the cause of the drummer's death is established.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, last week.

But South Wales Police said the cause of death will not be known until toxicology tests are completed, the results of which can take up to six weeks.

Officers previously said they were not speculating on the cause of death but there were no suspicious circumstances.

There will be family flowers only at the funeral with well-wishers asked to make donations instead in his memory to the Stuart Cable Charity Organisation.
