Father stabbed during school run in Edmonton

A father on the school run has been stabbed in a north London street during a row believed to be over parking.

The man suffered a chest wound on Thursday morning outside Eldon Junior School, Edmonton. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Two men have been arrested and are being questioned.

The school's head teacher Julie Messer said a small number of children and parents who saw the incident had been offered support.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 0905 BST to reports of an assault at Chester Road, N9.

"Police and London Ambulance Service attended and discovered a male in his 20s suffering from a stab wound to his chest."

Police refused to comment on whether a row over parking was the reason for the stabbing.

But several parents told BBC London 94.9 that arguments over parking during school runs were not unheard of.

One father said they were common. "The other day one parent parked the car in the middle of the road, got out and took the kids to school", he said.

One mother said it was "really terrible" that someone had been stabbed over a "very trivial" issue.

In a statement Ms Messer said: "This incident happened when the children had already arrived at the school.

"We sent letters home to reassure parents that we are liaising with the police and the local authority.

"Children carried on with their school day yesterday and we've contacted the support services to reassure a small number of children and their parents who may have seen some of the incident and have been upset by it."

In a separate attack nearby, a 14-year-old boy was stabbed in Hertford Road after a row with another youth on a bus. He is in a stable condition.

There have been no arrests over the second attack.
