Former Temptations singer Ali-Ollie Woodson dies at 58

Ali-Ollie Woodson, lead singer of the Temptations in the 1980s and '90s, has died in southern California at the age of 58.

The singer, who performed on such hits as Treat Her Like a Lady, Sail Away and Lady Soul, had been battling cancer.

Woodson was not an original member of the Motown quintet, which had numerous line-up changes over the years.

Yet he did help restore them as a hit-making group after a lengthy period of poor sales and public indifference.

According to Billy Wilson, president of the Motown Alumni Association, Woodson died on Sunday at a Los Angeles hospital due to complications from leukaemia.

Born Ollie Creggett in Detroit in 1951, he is survived by his wife Juanita and several children.
