The first foundation destined for a windfarm off the Norfolk coast has arrived in the county.

It will be the first of 90 foundations to be laid on the Sheringham Shoal windfarm over the next nine months.

It was delivered from Vlissingen in the Netherlands to Great Yarmouth and will be driven into the sea bed as soon as the weather permits.

The foundations will be between 164ft (50m) and 180ft (55m) and weigh between 400-600 tonnes.

When the structure leaves Great Yarmouth it will be met at the windfarm site by a purpose-made self powered heavy-duty floating crane.

Project Director Rune Ronvik said: "Locals will start to notice a lot more activity offshore, and also in the operational base at Wells-next-the-Sea, as the installation progresses over the coming months."

The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is owned equally by Statoil and Statkraft through the joint venture company Scira Offshore Energy Limited.
