Galloway hotel cannabis crop 'worth more than £500,000'

A cannabis crop found growing in a disused Galloway hotel had a potential street value of more than £500,000, police have revealed.

They were alerted to the "industrial size" factory in the village of Glenluce by a member of the public.

A search of the Glenluce Hotel found about 2,000 cannabis plants.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have spotted people entering the property in the past few months to contact them.

Officers searching the hotel said their work had been hampered by the condition of the building.

However, they have now been able to put an estimated street value on the crop they uncovered.

The find was made on the same day police were holding a conference in the region to raise awareness of how to spot a cannabis factory.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary is also investigating the dumping of a cannabis plant crop with a potential street value of about £40,000 opposite Bankfield Farm, also in Glenluce, last Monday.

They have not yet established if that find was linked with the hotel discovery.
