Under a special agreement, all Commonwealth member countries are required to have at least 30% of women representatives in parliament by the end 2006. But Papua New Guinea (PNG), along with other Pacific nations, has failed to comply with the requirements. Lady Carol Kidu, the only woman holding a seat in PNG Parliament, Lindiwe Maseko, Chairperson, Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Network and Francesca Semoso, Women Representative for North Bougainville, share their thoughts on the potential introduction of new legislation which will attempt to redress the gender imbalance in PNG Parliament.
